Category Environmental Standards
Description Glycol (ethylene glycol) also known as "glycol", "1, 2 - ethyl diol", EG for short. It's CH2OH, which is the simplest diol. Ethylene glycol is a colorless, odorless, sweet liquid that is toxic to animals. Ethylene glycol can be miscible with water and acetone, but is less soluble in ether. Used as solvent, antifreeze and synthetic polyester raw materials. Polyethylene glycol (PEG), a high polymer of glycol, is a phase transfer catalyst also used for cell fusion. Its nitrate is an explosive.
