Heavy Metal Stabilizer

Introduction

Soil pollution by heavy metals is an identified environmental problem worldwide, which threatens human health, food safety and soil eco-services. It is reported that there are over 10 million contaminated sites throughout the world, covering more than 49.42 million acres of land, with over 50% being polluted by hazardous heavy metals [1]. Thus, the remedial treatment for heavy metal polluted soils is imperative and emergent. Numerous methods have been developed for soil heavy metal remediation, among them, stabilization has been shown to be an effective, convenient and low-cost remediation method. In this method, the heavy metals in soil are transformed into chemically stable forms by chemical reaction or physical binding between heavy metal stabilizer and heavy metals, so as to reduce the migration and bioavailability of heavy metals in soil.

Classification

Heavy metal stabilizer can be divided into two categories, inorganic heavy metal stabilizer and organic heavy metal stabilizer.

  • Inorganic heavy metal stabilizer: Some inorganic materials, such as clay minerals (sepiolite, bentonite, palygorskite, attapulgite and montmorillonite), lime materials, phosphates (natural phosphate rock, superphosphate, calcium dihydrogen phosphate and hydroxyl apatite), metal oxides (hematite, amorphous manganese oxide, diaspore), silicon-based materials (sodium silicate, magnesium silicate, and some silicate-rich wastes like steel slag, tailings and blast-furnace slag) Fe/Al-based materials, metal sulfides (calcium polysulfide (CPS) and sodium sulfide (Na2S) ) industrial wastes (fly ash), have been widely used as efficient stabilizing agents in soil remediation due to their outstanding capabilities to retain heavy metals through various mechanisms.
  • Organic heavy metal stabilizer: The organic materials include biochar, compost, sewage sludge and natural wastes, can act as heavy metals stabilizer. It can significantly contribute to not only improving soil physicochemical and biological properties and increasing soil nutrients, but also reducing the metal bioavailability and toxicity in contaminated soils via different stabilization mechanisms.

In addition, recently, the composite stabilizer was prepared by combining a variety of materials that can significantly improve the stabilization efficiency of heavy metals in contaminated soils. For example, Chen et al. used a mixture of illite, wollastonite, gypsum, limestone and dolomite powder to prepare a multi-element mineral stabilizer (MMA) that can significantly reduce heavy metals in soil [1].

Our Products

Alfa Chemistry is committed to the field of soil remediation and has successfully developed a variety of heavy metal stabilizers for the remediation of various types of heavy metal contaminated soil. Some of them are as follows.

ACMHMS-01

  • The product is suitable for the treatment and remediation of heavy metal contaminated soil, including mine remediation, harmless treatment of industrial land and heavy metal remediation of cultivated soil.
  • The product can effectively stabilize Cd, Pb, Cu, Zn and other heavy metals in soil, so as to reduce the heavy metal content of crops. However, it will not adsorb beneficial elements such as Ca, Mg, K, Na, Si, etc.
  • The product is easy to operate and can be directly mixed evenly with contaminated soil by mechanical means.

ACMHMS-01

ACMHMS-02

  • The product is suitable for the treatment and remediation of light to moderate heavy metal pollution of alkaline cultivated soil. The cultivated soil includes paddy fields, wheat fields, vegetable fields and others.
  • The product can effectively stabilize Cd, Pb, Cu and other active heavy metals in neutral or alkaline soil, so as to significantly reduce heavy metal content of crops. Meanwhile, it will also provide beneficial elements (such as K, Si, Ca, Mg, etc.) to soil.
  • The product is simple to operate and can be directly mixed evenly with cultivated lands by farming tools.

ACMHMS-02

ACMHMS-03

  • The product is suitable for the remediation of heavy metals contaminated cultivated soil.
  • The product can effectively stabilize Cd, Pb, Cu, Zn and other active heavy metals in cultivated soil. At the same time, it can controlled-release a variety of beneficial elements such as Si, Ca, Mg, etc. to increase the yield and quality of crops.
  • The product is simple to operate and can be directly mixed evenly with cultivated lands by farming tools.
